The solar panel is defective (from manufacturer)
After further research, I don't think this product is what it seems to be. The reviews and awards I read on what I thought was this product was actually for a product manufacturer by OWI, and their site has an area to order replacement parts, and refers to a warranty page in the instruction booklet. This item has no warranty, is copyrighted to CIC and imported from Taiwan buy Unicorn Enterprises Corp. I suspect corporate and customer purchasers alike (myself included) have been taken for ride.
That it worked
Bought this for my son for Xmas. He started to assemble it but the gear box didn't work. Per the instructions he reviewed the assembly, then asked me to review the assembly. It was built correctly. It seemed the solar panel wasn't charging. Upon closer inspection it appears that solar panel has a manufacturing defective, as the internal circuit is not continuous! I guess it will have to be returned.
